Pascuala Ilabaca y Fauna
Accordion-wielding Pascuala Ilabaca is a favorite on the new scene of young Chilean singer-songwriters. Her music is rooted in traditional sounds, informed by a colorful childhood moving from Barcelona to Chile, Mexico to India, and back again. Taking cues from Violeta Parra and Janis Joplin, her unique stage presence conjures up both sweetness and empowerment, with song lyrics focused on distinctly positive messages of feminism, anti-violence, and cultural heritage. Her formidable band Fauna, made up of accordion, keyboard, sax / clarinet, percussion, bass and guitar.
